17-year-old Barcelona midfield gem balancing B team duties with first team rhythm

FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has made it clear over the past two seasons that he trusts La Masia deeply. The German coach values the academy highly, and so far, it has paid off.

One of the players benefiting from that trust is 17-year-old Spaniard Dro Fernandez. Although he is still officially part of Barca Atletic, he has played more than 100 minutes for the first team this season and has performed impressively.

According to SPORT, Dro returned to the reserve side in their recent derby match — his first appearance there since the opening day on September 7. Since that time, he has been fully involved with the senior team.

He made his first-team debut on September 29 against Real Sociedad at Montjuïc, playing the entire first half of the 2–1 win. During the last international break, he also played three friendly matches for Spain’s U18 team.

In the current international window, Dro again joined the U18s for a training match against the U19s, but he returned early with other Barcelona players to rejoin Barcelona B.
