2026 World Cup Qualifier: Otto Addo asked to drop two Ghanaian stars

Ghanaian coach Christopher Nimley has applauded Black Stars coach Otto Addo’s stated decision to phase out senior members of the squad.

In an interview with Happy FM, Christopher Nimley stated that several Black Stars players had become disruptive to the team and should be sacked.

He underlined the significance of replacing ineffective, aging players with younger ones, emphasizing that performance and togetherness should be the foundation for inclusion in the squad.

He singled out Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew and center-back Daniel Amartey as players who have done their time and deserve to be dropped.

“If there is anyone on this team who cannot guarantee consistent performance, then he should be dropped. If I were handling this team, players like Daniel Amartey and Andre Dede Ayew, who has been around for 18 years, would be dropped.

“Nobody loves Dede more than I do, but performance-wise, he doesn’t guarantee proper consistency. You don’t build a team around someone who has been around for 18 years. We should move on. Why are we so scared of transitions? If we cannot transition the team, then obviously, you can’t get better as a team. I believe that the team should move on from older players who do not foster unity,” he said.

His comments come after claims that coach Otto Addo notified Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey, and other senior members of the squad that they were no longer part of the team’s plans.

According to Angel FM, Otto Addo spoke separately with the aforementioned individuals and emphasized that the club would be created around young, in-form players.
