Confirmed last words of Samuel Aboagye before the helicopter crash

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi West, Madam Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has spoken about the helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, that claimed eight lives.

In an interview with Accra-based Adom FM, she addressed reports of delays in the rescue efforts. According to her, she quickly contacted the Fire Service after hearing about the incident.

She explained that Fire Service personnel faced difficulties accessing the crash site because the road leading there was under construction.

Madam Appiah Kannin also recalled a brief phone conversation she had with one of the victims, Samuel Aboagye, while he was still in the helicopter. Aboagye, who was the acting Deputy Director-General of Operations at the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), told her he was on his way to the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme event in Obuasi.

“We spoke for 16 seconds. He told me he was coming. I never knew Aboagye was part of the deceased when I went to the crash scene because he did not tell me he would come. He had only told me that my Godfather and some officials were coming. I did not know he was among the victims,” she said.

She added that when she arrived at the scene, she picked up a phone to confirm the victims’ identities.
