I’m tired of eating gari – Ghanaian nurse cries live on radio over nine months’ salary arrears

A group calling itself the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives has raised concerns about salary arrears that have been outstanding for the past nine months.

Speaking in an interview on Lawson TV on August 18, one member of the group shared his ordeal and explained how the delay in payment has pushed him and his colleagues into severe hardship.

The young man, dressed in a white top with red bands around his neck and wrist, revealed that his landlord had already served him with an eviction notice because he could no longer keep up with rent.

He added that even money for food has become difficult to find, and he now survives mostly on gari, which he eats before heading to the hospital.

To make ends meet, the nurse disclosed that he currently works with masons on a part-time basis to earn some extra income.

“My mother is in the village, so when you come into my room, I have gari there. I eat gari in the morning. When I go to work, sometimes when my friends are eating, I join them to eat. That is how I survive. I cannot afford a balanced diet,” he said…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
