Popular NPP communicator snubs Bryan Acheampong’s invitation
The Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sunyani East Constituency, Abubakari Yakubu, has rejected an invitation extended to him and other executives by presidential aspirant Dr. Bryan Acheampong.

In a letter sighted by this paper, Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando, said he initially looked forward to the meeting scheduled to take place at the Rock City Hotel in the Eastern Region but could no longer attend following what he described as “irresponsible tribal remarks” made by Dr. Acheampong against former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, Dr. Acheampong’s recent comments linking Dr. Bawumia to the protracted Bawku conflict were both “misguided” and “dangerous” to the unity of the party.
“Today, you have unfortunately joined the regrettable chorus of the misguided who are peddling lies about Dr. Bawumia as the one who fueled the conflict between the Kusasis and the Mamprugus,” Yakubu wrote.
He argued that the NPP’s recent struggles in elections were due to neglect of the grassroots and growing apathy within the party, not ethnic or tribal issues.
While acknowledging Dr. Acheampong as a successful businessman with the potential to one day lead the NPP, Yakubu expressed disappointment in what he described as a “tribal outburst.”
He stressed that leadership at the presidential level required “composure, caution, and selfless dedication to the people, not profit-making instincts.”
“This decision aligns with my longstanding principle of distancing myself from any entity or individual that poses a threat to the Party’s integrity, irrespective of the potential consequences,” he added.
Yakubu urged Dr. Acheampong to refrain from making comments that could weaken internal party cohesion as the NPP prepares for the next elections.
