Akwatia by-election: All they know is beating people up and killing – Afenyo-Markin replies NDC’s Sofo Azorka

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has dismissed alleged threats against him by the National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Sofo Azorka, insisting he will not be intimidated.\

The incident followed a heated confrontation on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, after Afenyo-Markin made an unannounced visit to the NDC’s party office in Akwatia. Party executives described the move as provocative and accused him of attempting to unsettle supporters ahead of the by-election.

An angry Azorka described the Minority Leader’s visit as “highly disrespectful” and “provocative,” further claiming that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was using intimidation tactics to frustrate NDC members.

In response, Afenyo-Markin alleged that Azorka threatened to kill him, adding that this was not the first time such remarks had been made.

“I have heard that the NDC’s Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, said that he wants to ‘kill’ me. We know them—the infamous Azorka Boys; all they know is beating people up and killing others. So, this is not his first time threatening people. But I am not a coward,” he said.

He also urged NPP supporters to remain calm and not allow fear to influence their political decisions.
