Michael Baafi asked to resign follow NDC Akwatia victory
Deputy National Elections Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has rejected the apology issued by Michael Okyere Baafi, insisting that the New Juaben South MP must resign following the outcome of the Akwatia by-election.

Baafi had publicly declared before the election that he would step down from Parliament if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the seat. The NDC’s victory has now prompted calls for him to honor that promise.
“We are going to Michael Okyere Baafi’s constituency [New Juaben South]. He has apologised, but we are not accepting his apology. He must resign. If he doesn’t resign, Ghanaians will not take politicians seriously,” Tanko Computer said.
He stressed that the matter is about accountability and integrity in public life.
“We must be serious. They must hold us to our words. Whatever comes out of my mouth, they must take it seriously. I can’t just stand here, make statements, and then within 24 hours apologise,” he added.
Tanko Computer also recounted what happened on election night, revealing that Baafi appeared confident of an NPP win until the results came in.
“Do you know that he came in here when we were about to start the coalition, beaming with smiles, telling me that ‘we are winning’, until I showed him the results on my phone that ‘my friend, you have lost the election and I’m coming to your constituency for a by-election,’ then he started perspiring. That’s the time he got to know that things had changed,” he narrated.
