Son President convicted for selling a national airline plane

EQUATORIAL GUINEA – One of the sons of Equatorial Guinea’s President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has been convicted of corruption and illegally selling state property.

Ruslan Obiang Nsue was found guilty by a court for unlawfully selling a plane belonging to the country’s national airline, Ceiba Intercontinental.

Ruslan, who previously served as Minister of Sports and CEO of Ceiba, was sentenced to six years in prison.

He was arrested in January 2023 after confessing to the crime before a commission led by his half-brother, Vice President Nguema Obiang.

The case began after an ATR 72-500 aircraft belonging to the airline went missing in November 2022. Investigations later revealed that Ruslan had secretly sold the plane to a Spanish company, Binter Technic, and pocketed the proceeds.

The court ruled that he must serve his sentence unless he repays about $255,000 to the airline, in addition to paying damages and a state fine…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
