Four killed in a ‘Rambo Style’ attack on Garu NHIS office
Four people have reportedly been shot dead, and several others injured following an attack by unknown gunmen in Garu, in the Upper East Region.

According to eyewitnesses, four armed men riding on two motorbikes opened fire at the Garu District National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office, killing two people instantly.
One of the victims was said to be a staff member of the NHIA who was shot inside the office, while another unidentified man was gunned down outside the building.
The attackers continued shooting as they fled the scene, targeting bystanders, teachers, and pupils of a nearby public school.
During the chaos, the headteacher of Garu D/A Primary School and a local chief were also killed, bringing the total number of deaths to four.
Reports indicate that the assailants seized a motorbike from one of their victims before escaping. The injured are currently receiving treatment at nearby health facilities.
The incident has left residents in fear and shock.
Edward Ndebugri, a former Presiding Member of the Garu District Assembly and current Assembly Member for Kugri, confirmed the incident and said the community is still struggling to understand the motive behind the attack.
“The whole town is in shock. This is the first time we are witnessing such an incident. People are living in fear, and we are pleading with the security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Following the attack, police and military personnel have been deployed to key areas, including the NHIA office and the Presbyterian Hospital, to maintain order. Calm has since been restored in the community.
