Infrequent video of NPP MP asking delegates to back ‘in-law’ Ken Agyapong pops up online
The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, Lawyer Kwaku Asante Boateng, has once again found himself at the centre of controversy after a video of him urging party delegates to support his in-law, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries went viral.

In the video, the outspoken MP is seen addressing polling station executives and other delegates, passionately appealing to them to vote massively for the Assin Central MP, whom he described as the right man to lead the NPP into the 2024 general elections.
The NPP’s presidential primaries are scheduled for January 31, 2026, and the race is expected to be fiercely contested, with Kennedy Agyapong and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the two main contenders.
Asante Boateng’s open endorsement of Agyapong has reignited criticism, coming barely days after he was condemned nationwide for allegedly making tribal and divisive comments about Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In an interview on Adom FM, the MP reportedly described Dr Bawumia as a “foreigner” and a “slave” who should be serving others instead of being promoted as the party’s presidential candidate. His remarks drew strong backlash from Ghanaians across the political divide, civil society organizations, and even within the NPP itself.
The party’s national executives quickly disassociated themselves from his statements, describing them as “unfortunate, reckless, and contrary to the unity and inclusiveness that define the NPP.”
Political analysts believe that Asante Boateng’s latest show of loyalty to Kennedy Agyapong strengthens suspicions that his earlier outburst was not a mere slip of the tongue but rather a deliberate stra
tegy to discredit Dr Bawumia’s campaign.
A number of senior NPP members have since called for disciplinary action against him, arguing that his conduct undermines the peace and cohesion the party needs ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Some have also accused him of promoting division within the ranks of the NPP at a time when the party needs to present a united front to maintain power.
Despite the backlash, Asante Boateng appears unperturbed, insisting that his loyalty lies with Kennedy Agyapong, who, according to him, embodies honesty, courage, and a true desire to serve the grassroots of the party.
The ongoing tension between supporters of Dr Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong has further exposed deep cracks within the NPP. Party insiders fear that if the internal wrangling is not contained, it could weaken the NPP’s chances in the 2024 general elections.
As the January primaries draw near, the stakes continue to rise, and the battle for the NPP flagbearership is shaping up to be one of the most heated and defining internal elections in the party’s history…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
