Chaos as Bryan Acheampong’s key man quits to join Bawumia

The NPP Constituency Chairman for Essikado-Ketan in the Western Region, Kwabena Afful, has declared his support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become the party’s candidate for the 2028 elections.

Afful, who previously served as a coordinator for Bryan Acheampong’s campaign, officially switched sides during Dr. Bawumia’s visit to the Western Region on Wednesday.

The Chairman urged delegates in his constituency not to repeat what happened during the 2023 NPP primaries, where Dr. Bawumia placed second in Essikado-Ketan.

“My issue is very simple. Two years ago in 2023, Dr. Bawumia was here in Essikado-Ketan to appeal to us to vote for him. Unfortunately, he came second here. Nonetheless, he expressed his appreciation to us,” Afful said.

“I want to plead with all of you that this time, come January 2026, let us all rally solidly behind Dr. Bawumia and give him a resounding victory when the votes are counted.”

His declaration is seen as a major setback to the Bryan Acheampong campaign in both the constituency and the Western Region.
