Rev Lawrence Tetteh defends Wesley Girls

Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, a well-known Ghanaian evangelist, has spoken on the ongoing controversy surrounding Wesley Girls’ Senior High School.

In a video spotted by YEN.com.gh, Rev. Dr. Tetteh warned that if the debate is mishandled, it could escalate into a national security issue.

The dispute arose after Wesley Girls’ restricted Muslim students from participating in certain religious practices, including the Ramadan fast, citing its long-standing rules as a Methodist institution.

Dr. Tetteh urged sensitivity and dialogue, highlighting Ghana’s valuable tradition of peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims.

He defended the school’s position, noting: “Wesley Girls’ school is a Methodist school. If you are privileged to go to a Methodist school, when you go to Rome, you do what the Romans do.”

He added that students attending faith-based schools should respect the institution’s established ethos. Dr. Tetteh expressed disapproval of taking the issue to court, calling instead for community dialogue.

“I’m against the fact that we’re taking issues like this to court. We should learn dialogue,” he said.

He cautioned that mishandling the matter could have serious consequences: “I believe that if we don’t exercise these things well, it will become a national security issue, and we will not be able to help it.”
