Deeper Life Church suspends couple’s marriage for eating from same plate

A social media user has narrated how a planned wedding was cancelled after the couple reportedly ate from the same plate a week before their ceremony.

According to the Twitter user, the incident happened on Saturday, June 8, 2019, in Okutukutu, Bayelsa, where the couple—members of Deeper Life Bible Church—were set to wed.

He explained that after all preparations had been completed, the State Overseer of the church instructed the chairman of the marriage committee to suspend the wedding. The message sent to the couple read: “YOUR WEDDING IS SUSPENDED. TWO OF YOU ARE PLACED ON DISCIPLINE.” This message reportedly arrived on Friday, the same day their traditional marriage was held.

The bride’s family later visited the State Overseer to plead with him to allow the wedding to go on. The Twitter user said the bride’s mother cried and rolled on the floor begging, but the pastor refused to listen and walked away. He described the situation as humiliating and distressing.

The bride was said to have been deeply traumatized by the cancellation, prompting concerns about her mental health. The Twitter user mentioned he could help connect the family to a psychologist.

According to him, the couple said the chairman of the marriage committee informed them that the reason for the suspension was that they had eaten from the same plate a week earlier—an action the State Overseer reportedly considered unacceptable before marriage.

The Twitter user called on Deeper Life General Overseer, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, to investigate the matter and question the Bayelsa State Overseer for allegedly ruining what was supposed to be the couple’s joyous day…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
