Benin coup plotter, Pascal Tigri escapes to Togo

A security analyst for East and West Africa, Brant Philip, has claimed that the alleged leader of the failed coup attempt in Benin Republic, Lt. Colonel Pascal Tigri, has crossed the border and fled to Lomé, Togo.

Philip said, “Intelligence sources indicate that Lt. Col. Tigri escaped Benin shortly after the failed operation and is currently hiding in Lomé.”

Earlier, News Region reported that Benin Republic authorities had declared Tigri and two other soldiers wanted after they allegedly attempted to overthrow President Patrice Talon’s administration on Sunday.

According to Benin’s constitutional authorities, the officer “is being sought for his direct role in orchestrating and coordinating the coup attempt,” and the three men fled immediately after their plan collapsed.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also confirmed the development. He wrote that, “Benin’s coup attempt has failed. The ring leader, Lt. Col. Pascal Tigri, is now on the run and has been declared wanted by the authorities.”
