Where is Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta? – Afrifa-Mensah goes after AG Ayine over Ofori-Atta extradition

Ghanaian media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has criticised the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, accusing him of misleading the public over claims that steps are being taken to extradite former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speaking on his For the Records programme on Monday, December 22, Afrifa-Mensah questioned the credibility of the Attorney General’s comments, insisting there is no clear evidence to show that any legal action has been filed against Ofori-Atta.

According to Afrifa-Mensah, Dr Ayine has not provided proof that extradition proceedings have started, describing the public statements as an attempt to mislead Ghanaians.

“You are not being honest with the people on this matter. The Attorney General has not shown any proof that he has filed a case against Ken Ofori-Atta. So, the simple question is: where is Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta?” he asked.

Afrifa-Mensah also criticised Dr Ayine’s claim that the extradition process begins in a “competent court of federal jurisdiction,” saying the statement lacked clarity and legal precision.

He explained that the United States has 92 federal district courts, with some states, including New York, having more than one federal district.

According to him, without clearly stating the specific federal court with jurisdiction over Ofori-Atta’s location, an extradition process cannot legally begin.

“If you study law and do not understand jurisdiction, then you have wasted your time. You cannot start an extradition process in a court that does not exist or whose jurisdiction you cannot identify,” he said.

Afrifa-Mensah further rejected claims that the former Finance Minister is challenging any extradition attempt, stressing that no such process has been initiated.

He noted that under international extradition rules, Ghana must first make a formal request through diplomatic channels before any matter can reach a foreign court.

He added that such a request must clearly state the fugitive’s location and be sent to the appropriate authorities before any arrest or surrender warrant can be issued.

Afrifa-Mensah therefore urged the Attorney General to stop what he described as public deception and instead clearly inform Ghanaians about Ken Ofori-Atta’s whereabouts and the actual legal steps taken, if any, to secure his extradition.

He concluded that until such details are made public, claims that the former Finance Minister has hired lawyers or is fighting extradition remain unproven…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
