Ghanaians will forgive us for all the wrong we did – Bryan Acheampong
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has advised the party not to retain Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

He said the party’s showing in the 2024 elections suggests that keeping the same candidate will not make a meaningful difference to its chances in future polls.
Dr. Acheampong made the remarks on Face to Face on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 23, during an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu, where he said the 2024 election results should shape the party’s decisions going into 2028.
“If you go into the 2024 elections results, you cannot repeat a candidate. Not much will change,” he warned.
He added that while Ghanaians have shown the ability to forgive political parties for past governance failures, leadership remains key to electoral victory.
“Ghanaians will forgive our party [NPP] for a lot of the wrongs it did in the past, because they forgave the NDC. It will forgive NPP. But we have a candidate challenge that we may not be able to surmount. Leadership inspires hope,” he said.
Dr. Acheampong stressed that the NPP must be strategic in selecting its presidential candidate if it intends to return to power in future elections.
