My support for Dr Bawumia is not driven by any promise – NAPO

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential running mate for the 2024 general elections, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has said that given his long experience in politics, it would be inappropriate for him not to know who is best positioned to lead the party into the future.

Dr Opoku Prempeh cited his political background as a four-term Member of Parliament, former NPP Director of Elections, and Minister of State in two key ministries, saying this experience gives him the responsibility to speak clearly on the party’s leadership direction.

Based on this, he stated that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the most suitable candidate among the five aspirants contesting the NPP flagbearership. He urged party delegates to vote for Dr Bawumia in the presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Speaking on the GHOne Morning Show with Serwaa Amihere, Dr Opoku Prempeh explained that Dr Bawumia has the vision, competence, and strategic focus required to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 general elections.

Responding to suggestions that his endorsement was influenced by hopes of being retained as Dr Bawumia’s running mate, Dr Opoku Prempeh dismissed the claim.

He said he did not lobby for the position in the 2024 elections and explained that his selection was solely based on Dr Bawumia’s own judgment.

“My support for Dr Bawumia is not driven by any promise,” he said. “I support him because I see efficiency, preparedness, and the capacity to lead the party.”

Dr Opoku Prempeh added that he has supported Dr Bawumia for a long time and has always prayed for him to one day lead the NPP.

He also clarified that the selection of a running mate is not something to be contested, but a decision that lies entirely with the flagbearer.

He therefore cautioned some aspirants against claiming that there are plots against them over running mate choices, stressing that such decisions are strategic and rest solely with the presidential candidate…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
