Nigeria gives update on the state of Anthony Joshua
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has confirmed that Nigerian-British boxer Anthony Joshua is in stable condition and receiving medical care following a road traffic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, December 29.

The crash involved a Toyota Lexus jeep carrying Joshua and three other passengers, two of whom tragically lost their lives. The deceased were identified as Ayodele Kelvin, 36, a Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina, 36, a British citizen. The Ogun State Government expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
Governor Abiodun, together with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, visited the hospital where Joshua was receiving treatment.
They reportedly stayed for several hours to oversee his care and ensure he received appropriate medical attention.
“As soon as I was informed, I headed straight to the hospital and was later joined by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. We both took charge of the situation, oversaw Anthony Joshua’s care, and remained at the hospital for over seven hours,” Abiodun said.
Other officials, including the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, also visited the hospital. President Bola Tinubu was fully briefed on the incident and spoke separately with Joshua, his mother, and Governor Abiodun to convey his sympathies and condolences.
The British High Commission was formally notified, and Deputy Head of Mission Simon Field visited the hospital to meet with Joshua and the two governors.
