A leading member of the Kennedy Agyepong campaign team for the January 31 presidential primaries, and Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has said that despite Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership qualities, he does not have the opportunity to lead the party to victory in the 2028 general elections.

Explaining why he moved from Dr Bawumia’s camp to that of Kennedy Agyepong, Dr Amoah said the former Assin Central MP is the best choice among the five contenders.
According to him, Kennedy Agyepong appeals more to the grassroots of the New Patriotic Party than the other four aspirants.
Speaking on UTV’s Adekye Nsroma on Thursday, December, Dr Amoah said, “Dr. Bawumia is a great person. He can be a very good President but in management, there is something called performance functions, which has three variables: ability, opportunity, and motivation. Dr. Bawumia, despite his ability to lead, does not have the opportunity to lead, and that is why I switched camps.
“If you compare the opportunities available to Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyepong, you would notice that Kennedy’s opportunities are far higher,” he added.
Dr Amoah said he is not against Dr Bawumia’s leadership but stressed that winning the 2028 elections is critical for the party.
“I am a motivist; I am not a consequentialist. I look at things from a critical angle. If the NPP does not win the 2028 and 2032 elections, it would be very difficult for the party to come back to power, and that is why we ought to bring Kennedy Agyepong as the party’s flagbearer,” he stated.
