NPP Flagbearer Race: Whatever the outcome of the elections, our prayer is for unity – Kennedy Agyapong

New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong has appealed for peace among party members and Ghanaians ahead of the January 31 presidential flagbearer contest.

He made the call while speaking at the Ken’s National Praise 2026 event held in Accra on January 2, 2026. Mr Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a contender for the flagbearer position, said the gathering was meant purely for thanksgiving and spiritual reflection, and not for political campaigning.

He called on supporters to pray for peace before, during, and after the party’s internal elections, cautioning against violence, bitterness, and division.

“As a people, and as a party, we are also entering an important election season. Our prayer tonight is simple: peace before the elections, peace during the elections, and peace after the elections. No violence. No bitterness. No division.

“Leadership comes from God, not from chaos. And when God leads, peace follows. Whatever the outcome of the elections, our prayer is for unity. Elections will pass, but unity must remain. When we stay united, we move forward together as one people,” he said.

The NPP set January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primary at a National Executive Committee meeting held in mid-2025.

The early date has allowed aspirants close to a year to campaign and interact with delegates ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The race includes several notable figures, such as former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Kennedy Agyapong.
