Court remands two women in La child assault case

The La District Court has remanded two women accused of assaulting a 12-year-old girl near La Roman Junior High School.

The accused, Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25, face three charges: conspiracy, assault, and cruelty to a child. Their mother, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, is currently at large and being sought by police.

Both women pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody for two weeks after the court rejected a bail application filed by their lawyer. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Gladys Aikins Asare, opposed bail, saying the remand was necessary for police to complete investigations and noting that the accused posed a flight risk.

The case has been adjourned to January 19, 2026.

Prosecution’s account

Chief Inspector Asare told the court that the victim, whose identity is withheld, often visited the Mesopeh household to run errands and help with domestic chores.

On December 30, 2025, the victim reportedly had a disagreement with the accused persons’ seven-year-old brother, which escalated into a physical confrontation that left the boy injured. Following the incident, the accused allegedly sought out the victim and assaulted her, causing injuries and bodily pain.
