Anti-Gay Bill: I’m disappointed Akufo-Addo didn’t sign the bill – NPP’s Ibrahim Adjei

A former Assistant Secretary at the Office of ex-President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed disappointment over the former president’s refusal to sign the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-gay bill.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Monday, January 5, 2025, Mr. Adjei argued that countries should not be pressured into adopting policies against their will due to financial or donor-related consequences. He warned that allowing fears of monetary implications from foreign donors to shape Ghana’s social and cultural policies could have long-term effects on the nation and future generations.

“When we kowtow to something inherently evil, so let me somehow manage what I know is wrong with financial benefits, then where are we going as a country?” he questioned.

He expressed particular disappointment at former President Akufo-Addo’s decision not to assent to the controversial anti-LGBTQ bill.

Mr. Adjei stressed that external financial dependence should not compel Ghana to adopt practices fundamentally opposed by its citizens, adding:

“We shouldn’t allow our fear of the monetary and financial consequences from donor countries to open our society, our children, to something that is anathema to the human person.”…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
