Ghana National Fire Service PRO in hot waters
The Ghana Journalists Association has stepped up calls for accountability following the assault on Class FM journalist Samuel Addo during a fire outbreak at the Kasoa Market on Sunday, January 4, 2026.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour called for the immediate dismissal of the Ghana National Fire Service Public Relations Officer, DO II Desmond Ackah, saying his handling of the incident showed he was unfit to manage communication for the Service.
“We call for the immediate dismissal or removal of the PRO of the GNFS from the position because our interactions with him on the case show that he is unfit to be in charge of communication for the Fire Service,” he demanded.
The Association also called for an unqualified public apology from the Ghana National Fire Service to Mr Addo, the Class Media Group, and the media fraternity for the humiliation, trauma, and professional obstruction caused by the assault.
Mr Dwumfour commended the government, through the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, for publicly condemning the attack. In a post on X, Mr Kwakye Ofosu condemned the actions of the fire personnel and assured that firm action would be taken against those responsible.
The GJA also praised the management and Chief Executive Officer of Class Media Group, Seidu Agongo, for issuing a strong statement condemning the attack.
Mr Dwumfour confirmed that the Association would work with Class Media Group and the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications to ensure justice for Mr Addo.
