What kind of press conference is this? – United Party’s Ebo Buckman slams Minority for spreading ‘panic’
The Deputy Communications Director of the United Party (UP), Ebo Buckman, has taken a swipe at the Minority Caucus in Parliament, accusing it of deliberately attempting to spread fear and panic through its recent public statements.

Buckman made the remarks during an appearance on TV3 on January 9, 2026, where he questioned the motive behind a recent press conference organised by the Minority.
He argued that the Minority’s comments, particularly those suggesting that investors and tourists are becoming wary of Ghana, are aimed at undermining the country’s economic progress and would ultimately fail.
“What kind of press conference is this? What is the import of this press conference? And she went on to say that now investors are afraid to come to Ghana, and tourists are afraid to come to Ghana. You see, creating this fear and panic situation to affect the economy will not wash,” he said.
Buckman further claimed that the Minority’s posture is driven by political calculations, suggesting that the opposition is hoping the current government performs poorly so it can improve its chances of regaining power.
“We know it is your desire that this government fails so that it can come back to power. That does not mean that it should be having such press conferences… didn’t you see how the police people policed the Christmas for us to have a very smooth Christmas?” he stated.
He praised the security agencies for ensuring peace and order during the festive season and contrasted that with what he described as the Minority’s alarmist messaging.
“… stop creating unnecessary fear and panic in the system just to let the outsiders know that there’s something going on in Ghana. I sleep with my two eyes closed. I don’t even lock my gate when I’m sleeping. Please, stop that,” he added.
Buckman’s comments were in response to a press conference addressed by the Minority, led by Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, in which the opposition raised concerns about what it described as a worsening security situation under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Addressing the media on Thursday, January 8, during an assessment of the president’s first year in office, Appiagyei claimed that incidents of armed robbery and violent crime have increased, weakening public confidence and the general sense of safety across the country.
“Ghanaians now sleep with one eye open. The security situation has deteriorated, turning our once peaceful nation into one gripped by fear and uncertainty,” she said.
“As of July 2025, Ghana had recorded about 628 armed robbery cases and 314 murders involving illicit arms in just half a year. Ghanaians no longer feel safe in their own homes. The duty to safeguard life and property has weakened under politicised policing and neglect of our security services,” she added…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
