Kpone Market in flames
A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday, January 13, 2026, caused serious damage at the Kpone Market, destroying eleven structures and goods belonging to traders.

In a Facebook post, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the fire started at dawn and triggered a quick response from its personnel.
Firefighters from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station, with support from the Devtraco Fire Station, arrived at the scene and worked to bring the situation under control.
The GNFS said the fire was contained within one hour and 48 minutes, preventing it from spreading further across the market.
According to the service, their timely intervention helped save more than 200 structures, many of which are occupied by traders and small businesses that support the local market economy.
No injuries or deaths were recorded, but eleven traders suffered heavy losses after their goods were destroyed by the fire.
Later in the day, the Tema Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II Patrick Sallah, led a team of fire investigators to the market to assess the damage.
