The money came from Ofori-Atta, Amoako Atta, and others – NPP opens up on campaign funds for Bawumia
A member of the New Patriotic Party communications team, Awal Mohammed, has clarified that although the campaign team of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia received funds during the 2023 presidential primary, the money attributed to the Mpraeso MP, Dr Bryan Acheampong, did not come directly from him.

In a Facebook post on Monday, January 19, 2025, Awal Mohammed explained that the funds were contributions from various individuals, which were collected and distributed by Dr Acheampong.
This clarification follows a viral video in which the NPP Eastern Regional Chairman, Jeff Konadu, criticised some Members of Parliament, including Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and claimed that Dr Bryan Acheampong had provided them with financial support.
“Some Eastern Region MPs received money, but it was contributions from individuals that Dr Bryan Acheampong received and distributed,” the post said.
Awal Mohammed also noted that Dr Bawumia had appointed trusted representatives in the Ashanti, Eastern, Central and Northern regions to receive and distribute campaign funds.
“In the Eastern Region, all donors were directed to Dr Bryan Acheampong, who handled the funds. The money came from Ofori-Atta, Amoako Atta, and others, plus direct transfers from the national finance director,” the post added.
