NPP Race: Ken Agyapong’s outburst triggers sharp fall
A final poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia leading the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary with 57 percent of the vote.

The survey suggests that former Assin Central MP Ken Agyapong’s political fortunes were severely affected by a recent public outburst. According to information shared on Facebook by Global InfoAnalytics Executive Director Mussa Dankwah, Agyapong’s support collapsed just a day after the incident, leaving him with little chance of mounting a strong challenge.
Meanwhile, Abetifi MP and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, who had previously polled around 6 percent, surged to 13 percent, appearing to benefit directly from Agyapong’s misstep. The poll indicates that Dr. Bawumia did not fully capitalise on the shift, showing a more complex redistribution of support within the party.
The incident occurred when Agyapong launched a harsh attack on Dr. Bawumia over a comment he wrongly believed was made by him. Video footage later showed that the remark was actually made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Chairman Wontumi had told party delegates in the Ashanti Region that the NPP has historically retained its first-time presidential candidates, except for Professor Albert Adu Boahen, who was not retained for the 1996 election due to health reasons—a position documented in a book by Apenten Appiah-Menka, a close associate of the late professor.
