I attended about four funerals and at each of them people were calling for Dr Bawumia – Asenso Boakye

Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to respect the wishes of the majority of party supporters by voting massively for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in Saturday’s presidential primaries.

Speaking to NPP delegates and members in Bantama on Monday, Asenso Boakye said his interactions with party supporters across the country show that Dr Bawumia remains the preferred choice to lead the party into the 2028 elections. He said delegates should therefore vote in line with the will of the people.

“The other weekend I attended about four funerals and at each of them people were calling for Dr Bawumia. They warned me that our delegates should not make a mistake and not elect,” Asenso Boakye said.

“I was in church too and a Methodist Bishop called me aside and said we should be very careful and not make a mistake of replacing Dr Bawumia. That is what everybody is saying.”

The MP praised Dr Bawumia’s intellect, humility, and vision, saying his support for him is based on public sentiment and the long-standing tradition of Ghana’s two main political parties retaining already marketed presidential candidates.

“I am not a sentimental politician who takes decisions on sentiments. I analyse well and I go to where the majority of the people want,” he said.

“We all know that here in Ghana, none of the leading political parties makes the mistake of replacing a presidential candidate who has already been marketed to Ghanaians, especially when the main opponent will be presenting a new candidate.”

He cited past examples where the NPP retained President Kufuor and President Akufo-Addo, while the NDC repeated Professor Atta Mills and President Mahama.

Asenso Boakye said considering the strong support for Dr Bawumia and the party’s tradition, it would be unwise for the NPP to choose a different candidate for 2028.

“I have gone to so many places in Ghana and I have spoken to so many people. The party, across the country, has decided to retain Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and I urge Bantama Constituency to be part of this great decision. So let us all be part of it and vote massively for Dr Bawumia on Saturday.”…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
