Types of food that can cause food poisoning if eaten raw.

While raw foods can be part of healthy eating, certain types of food carry a higher risk of food poisoning when eaten raw. Knowing what they are can help protect you and your loved ones from getting sick.

First, raw meat and poultry like chicken, beef, or pork are risky because they may carry harmful bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli. Eating these raw can cause serious stomach issues. The same goes for raw seafood, such as sushi made with raw fish, oysters, or shellfish. These can harbor parasites and viruses that cause foodborne illness.

Raw eggs are another common culprit, as they can contain Salmonella. It’s safer to cook eggs fully before eating, especially for young children, pregnant women, or the elderly.

Some raw vegetables and fruits, like sprouts (alfalfa, bean), can also carry bacteria if they aren’t properly washed or handled.

Even unpasteurized milk and dairy products pose a risk because they may contain harmful bacteria.

It’s not about fear it’s about being smart. By knowing which foods are risky and preparing them safely, you can enjoy your meals while protecting your health
