I think you are afraid of the NDC – Kofi Bentil to EC chair

Renowned private legal practitioner and Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has boldly stated that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will eventually remove the current leadership of the Electoral Commission (EC) as part of efforts to “sanitise” the institution.

Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews on July 5, 2025, Kofi Bentil claimed the Electoral Commission is afraid to carry out its duties due to fear of being dismissed by the current government.

According to him, the EC is trying to please the ruling NDC, even though they are likely to be removed regardless of their actions.

“Let me be clear. I think they are afraid of the NDC. They are afraid to do the things that they themselves have decided that they want to do because somehow, they want to avoid what Asiedu Nketiah has said openly that they believe they must be removed. Let me tell you, whether you boil it or you fry it, the NDC will remove you,” he said.

Bentil also warned the Electoral Commission about the consequences of its actions, saying their conduct might make it hard for concerned citizens to defend them if they are eventually dismissed.

“And in this particular case, you will not have anybody helping you,” he added.

He further questioned the EC’s decision to conduct a rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency after initially opposing the idea, suggesting possible collusion with the ruling party.

“So, this collusion, and I say collusion because who doubts that if you rerun this election, the NDC will win? Who doubts it?” he concluded.
