Ablekuma North: If we see we are losing, we will cause confusion and destroy everything – NPP’s Mustapha Salam

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has expressed strong concerns over the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.

He warned that allowing this rerun could set a dangerous precedent for future elections across the country.

“I can bet you that if this one stands, every election will be chaotic in this country because if we see that we are losing, we will just cause confusion and destroy everything. They are teaching us a new method of running elections in this country. Our official position is that we are left with three polling stations. We will not accept any rerun,” he stated.

According to him, the EC’s decision could encourage future attacks on polling stations and collation centres, with the expectation that such disruptions would lead to reruns.

“Electoral Commission has held on to its position for the past seven months. The official position of the EC when Bossman Asare went to Parliament was that there were three left to be collated. So, how come the commission’s position has changed when it is not even three weeks since the EC went to Parliament?” he questioned.

Salam Mustapha also argued that the EC cannot act beyond its authority, insisting that only a court can order a rerun of elections in polling stations.

He cited the Akwatia rerun as an example to support his claim that the legal mandate to call for a rerun lies solely with the courts.
