Video of ex Bawumia aide Rosemond Obeng confirms appointment as Mahama’s aide surfaced

Some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), especially at the grassroots level, have expressed disappointment following news that Rosemond Obeng, a former aide to ex-Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been appointed as a senior presidential staffer.

This reaction comes after a video surfaced showing Rosemond confirming her new position under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

Rosemond, who previously worked closely with Dr. Bawumia—the 2024 presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)—switched allegiance and joined the NDC ahead of the last general election. In the video, she confirmed her current role as an aide at the Office of the President.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, at a school event, she officially introduced herself as a presidential aide.

“I am singularly honoured to share in this special moment with you all here today at North Hills International School at the 6th Annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day.

“As the lady introduced me already as a representative from the Office of the President, in my capacity as a presidential aide, I bring you warmest greetings from Honourable Felix Kwakye Ofosu. He is the Minister for Government Communications, and he is the one I am representing today as the guest speaker,” she said.

She also spoke about the government’s efforts towards youth development.

“This government, under the leadership of HE John Dramani Mahama, is committed to the development of our young people. They are our hope,” she added.

Popularly known as the “People’s Mother,” Rosemond publicly resigned from the NPP just days before the December 2024 general election and announced her move to the NDC.

Before joining Mahama’s team, she was the national TESCON coordinator for the NPP and a known associate of Dr. Bawumia. In an interview on GHOne TV, she explained that her decision to leave the NPP was influenced by her belief that the former vice president lacked the leadership skills needed to govern the country.

“We require crucial leadership, and I am aware that my father and former boss is unable to provide it. We get bad results, output, and performance from bad leadership,” she said.
