Akufo-Addo’s bad decisions will continue to haunt you – Bishop tells Bawumia

The United Nations Peace Ambassador to Ghana and Country Director for the International Association of World Peace Advocates, Ambassador Bishop Dr. Sam Owusu, has warned that several unpopular decisions made by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could seriously harm Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s political future.

According to him, the former Vice President’s chances of leading the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 elections have already been affected due to ongoing public dissatisfaction with decisions made during Akufo-Addo’s time in office.

Speaking in an interview with the media in Accra, Ambassador Bishop Dr. Sam Owusu — who is also the Founder and Head Pastor of Pottersville Church in Accra — expressed strong concerns about the former President’s leadership.

“It’s quite unfortunate that soo many unpopular decisions former President Nana Akuffo Addo, too has already started affecting the chances of Dr. Bawumia. One of such decisions was his refusal to reshuffle his ministers especially the former finance minister,” he stated.

He highlighted the controversial E-Levy as one of the most damaging policies, saying its implementation had long-lasting political effects on Dr. Bawumia.

Ambassador Bishop Dr. Sam Owusu said that the backlash from such decisions would continue to affect the former Vice President’s political image.

“The decision to force the implementation of the E-Levy on Ghanaians had a huge negative impact on Dr. Bawumia’s chances in 2024,” he noted, adding that “it will still affect the former Vice President because all the bad deeds would be tagged on him.”

He also called on former President Akufo-Addo to apologise to Ghanaians and NPP members for what he described as a damaging legacy that led to the party’s poor performance in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
