Police kill two armed robbers in ‘Rambo Style’ Atebubu-Yeji highway robbery
An exchange of gunfire between police officers and a group of armed robbers on the Atebubu-Yeji highway in the Bono East Region has resulted in the death of two of the robbers.

According to information gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the robbers had earlier attacked and robbed a group of traders, during which one person was shot and killed.
A police source disclosed to GNA that the robbery occurred at Kobre, a community along the highway, at around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025. The traders were reportedly returning from the Yeji market to Atebubu when the armed men ambushed them.
The police highway patrol team encountered the robbers at the scene, leading to a fierce gun battle. Two of the robbers were killed in the process, while another managed to escape with gunshot wounds.
One of the victims, a trader who wished to remain anonymous, told GNA that the deceased, identified as Mohammed Suraji Raweisu, popularly known as “Suker,” was a 38-year-old livestock keeper. He was hit by a stray bullet while sitting behind the driver of the vehicle.
Following Islamic customs, Raweisu’s body was buried shortly after the incident.
The eyewitness explained that the robbers, who had been hiding in the bush, began firing indiscriminately at the vehicle. In the midst of the chaos, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush for safety.
The robbers then took advantage of the situation to rob the passengers of their money, mobile phones, and other valuables. They reportedly attacked other vehicles that were also using the highway at the time.
Residents of Kobre, upon hearing of the attack, rushed to the scene, but the robbers had already fled. They later transported the body of the deceased to the mortuary at Yeji Matthias Hospital.
