Adwoa Safo ‘joins’ Bawumia

Former Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has strongly urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s candidate for the 2028 elections.

She believes that despite the challenges the current administration faced, the Vice President deserves another opportunity to lead the party.

“We will support him. Every person deserves a second chance. Nana Akufo-Addo won the election on the third attempt. People even said that he had been cursed and could not become president, but he became president. So why have we presented a ticket, and you’ll come and say we should not present him again?” she said.

Adwoa Safo dismissed growing calls within the party for new leadership and emphasized that persistence is key in politics.

Her remarks come at a time when internal party discussions continue over the NPP’s future leadership following the 2024 electoral defeat. While some are calling for a fresh start, Adwoa Safo insists that Bawumia has proven himself and still has the potential to carry the party to victory.

She also admitted that the NPP made mistakes while in power, pointing to the government’s apparent insensitivity to public concerns.

“We know that as a government we were wicked to the Ghanaian people. MPs were targeted when they spoke about the government, but we all know that they were telling the truth,” she said.

Despite this, she maintains that sticking with Bawumia, learning from past errors, and realigning the party’s message is the best path forward for the NPP in the 2028 elections.
