I’m fighting for my right and for every woman in this country – Nana Akua Afriyie

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Ablekuma North Constituency, Nana Akua Afriyie, has expressed strong confidence in winning the parliamentary rerun scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, in 19 polling stations.

In an interview on JoyNews, monitored by DailyNewsGhana on Thursday, July 10, 2025, she said her determination and political resilience are grounded in her faith in God. According to her, all her efforts and strength come from divine guidance.

“There is nothing apart from God. Everything is with God. There is nothing I do that is outside of God. My strength comes from God. My humility comes from God. My hard work comes from God. Everything is Jehovah… I’m relying on His strength and praying that justice prevails,” she stated.

Nana Akua Afriyie ruled out any chance of losing the election and confidently declared victory ahead of the rerun.

“I’m saying I am winning. I am winning, just wait and see. God will prove Himself faithful,” she said.

She also made a passionate appeal to women across Ghana to rally behind her, framing her candidacy as a symbol of empowerment and justice for women.

“I’m fighting for my right. I’m standing for every woman in this country. I’m standing firm for every woman who has ever been cheated,” she said.

The candidate went further to accuse the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of planning to disrupt the electoral process through violent means.

“They [NDC] said they are bringing in macho men. I’ve heard they are hiding some of them,” she alleged.

This statement comes amid heightened political tension ahead of the rerun. Initially, the NPP had vowed not to participate in the election, insisting that Nana Akua Afriyie had already won the December 2024 contest. The party accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of attempting to undermine the will of the people by ordering a rerun.

However, the NPP has now reversed its decision and is fully backing its candidate in the upcoming vote.
