Ablekuma North Rerun: NPP Akua Afriyie leads with 48 votes – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Naa Akua Afriyie, is currently in the lead by 48 votes ahead of the rerun in 19 polling stations within the constituency.

According to the EC, after recollating the validated results from the 2024 general elections, Akua Afriyie has so far secured 32,512 votes, while her closest contender, Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has garnered 32,464 votes.

The EC indicated that the rerun is being held in 19 polling stations out of a total of 281 polling stations in the constituency, where results were previously deemed unauthenticated. The votes in contention from the 19 polling stations amount to 6,839, and the final outcome of the rerun will determine who ultimately wins the parliamentary seat.

Methodist Church, Odorkor 1

St. John Baptist Church, Odorkor 1

Radiantway Preparatory School

Ateco School Complex, Odorkor

South Odorkor 4 and 5 School, Odorkor 3

Pentecost Church, Tweneboa 2

Light of Gospel Miracle Chapel, Tweneboa 2

MTTD Odorkor Divisional Station, Odorkor 1

Roman Catholic Church, Busia Junction, Odorkor 1

The result of this rerun is of national interest, as it has implications for the composition of Ghana’s Parliament. If the NDC wins, the party will have 184 seats, securing an outright majority in the House. On the other hand, a win for the NPP would raise its parliamentary tally to 88 seats.
