It saddens and pains me that you are adding insult to injury – Ansa-Asare slams Chief Justice
Former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, has questioned the legal soundness of the Chief Justice’s decision to seek redress from the ECOWAS Court, calling it a misjudged move that undermines Ghana’s legal framework.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Ansa-Asare argued that Ghana’s court procedures and rules of evidence are grounded in local law and cannot be overridden by regional legal mechanisms.
“Our procedures are firmly embedded in the High Court rules and the Evidence Act of 1975. ECOWAS does not have a sub-regional procedure that we are violating,” he stated.
He insisted that the suspended Chief Justice’s action is unlikely to succeed and could ultimately backfire.
“Taking the matter out of the purview of our courts to the ECOWAS Court is not going to achieve the desired purpose. It will be defeated,” he stressed.
Ansa-Asare went on to describe the Chief Justice’s actions as self-inflicted legal missteps, arguing that her decisions are worsening her predicament.
“She’s making her bed and lying in it. It saddens and pains me that she is adding insult to injury. Such procedural blunders are difficult to justify given her legal background,” he indicated.
He concluded that while litigation is a part of due process, such apparent legal misjudgments from a figure of her status raise serious concerns about leadership and judgment within the judiciary.
