Journalists and citizens beaten, and Mahama is yet to talk, no one is safe – Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama for remaining silent on the violent clashes that occurred during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun on Friday, July 11, 2025.

His reaction comes after a video circulated widely on social media showing some New Patriotic Party (NPP) figures, including Hawa Koomson, being attacked after arriving at polling stations in support of their candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie. The incident has sparked strong condemnation, with many calling for action to address political violence.

Aboagye expressed surprise at President Mahama’s silence, pointing out that he had been quick to condemn similar incidents while in opposition.

In a Facebook post on July 13, Aboagye wrote:

“It’s been 48 hours since the brutalities against journalists and Ghanaian citizens by NDC hoodlums. Our President of the Republic is yet to make a single statement. Faces are known; names are known of these hoodlums. Their acts, from entry to exit, are captured on video and audio, but the Ghana Police Service says they are investigating. No arrests yet. This is not good… This doesn’t look good. No one is safe in such a society.”

He also dismissed the idea that the violence could be justified as retaliation, arguing that such logic only perpetuates further chaos. He referenced previous incidents under NDC governments where NPP members were attacked and claimed no action was taken.

“The excuse? Retaliation. If retaliation is to be admitted, then the NDC owes the NPP three more of these before we’re even. It happened under the NDC in Talensi, Chereponi, Atiwa, Akwatia, and now Ablekuma. That makes it five brutalities under an NDC government. And on each of these occasions, nothing happened, not even a simple committee to investigate.

Surely, Ablekuma should be different, and the President owes the people of this country the courtesy of taking decisive action on this matter,” he concluded.
