Blow to blow account on what happened between Bryan Acheampong and Wontumi at NPP NEC meeting
According to a post DailyNewsGhana sighted on MyNewsGh.com, a source from the ongoing National Executive Committee (NEC) emergency meeting has revealed that flagbearer aspirant Dr. Bryan Acheampong clashed with Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, over the proposed postponement of the upcoming National Delegates Conference.

Chairman Wontumi strongly opposed the idea of rescheduling, insisting that the party should hold the National Delegates Conference on July 19, 2025, and the presidential primaries on January 3, 2026. He argued that the party urgently needs a leader to steer its affairs and position itself as a formidable opposition force.
However, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, who disagreed with Wontumi’s stance, reportedly shut him down during the meeting. “Shut up, I just bailed you,” Acheampong is said to have snapped, referencing his recent intervention when Wontumi was reportedly arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) two weeks prior.
Meanwhile, earlier reports had suggested that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was also opposed to the party’s proposed dates for the conference and primaries. However, a statement from a former presidential staffer clarified that the ex-president has no objections and fully respects the party’s internal processes.
