I am an Akufo-Addo loyalist – Chairman Wontumi
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has refuted claims that former President Akufo-Addo has called for the postponement of the party’s early National Delegates Conference.

In a phone interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement TV, Chairman Wontumi clarified that the former president fully supports the decision made by the party’s National Council and has not opposed it in any way.
“I am an Akufo-Addo loyalist, and if he had decided otherwise, he would have informed me. He speaks to me like a son, and I speak to him as a dad,” Chairman Wontumi said, defending the former president.
He reaffirmed that the National Council’s decision to hold the conference on January 31, 2026, still stands and remains unchanged.
“It is the National Council that has the power to select a date for the election. They have spoken and settled on January 31. They have arranged the venue and transportation for the delegates,” he noted.
Chairman Wontumi also urged all members of the NPP to show respect to President Akufo-Addo and refrain from spreading misinformation that could tarnish his image.
“Akufo-Addo hasn’t spoken. People should stop putting words in his mouth. We should be celebrating him, not disgracing him,” he added.
