The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, stated that if punishing a presidential aspirant is necessary to restore discipline in the party, it must be done.

“Today, the indiscipline is too much in the NPP,” he said in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement TV monitored by DailyNewsGhana.

He emphasized that even presidential aspirants or party elders should not act out of line by openly condemning the National Council, stressing that there are appropriate channels to address disagreements with party executives.

“Even if you are a party elder or flagbearer aspirant, you shouldn’t misbehave by condemning the National Council. There are procedures to follow if you disagree with the executives,” he noted.

Chairman Wontumi highlighted that the NPP’s victory in the 2016 general elections was achieved through discipline, hard work, and prayer.

“We used hard work and prayer to win the election in 2016. There was discipline around at that time,” he said.

He believes that unless the National Executive and Council take the bold step to suspend members for insubordination, the ongoing acts of indiscipline will persist.

He expressed disappointment over the conduct of some party elders who publicly criticize members of the National Council after decisions have been made.

“After the National Council has held a meeting, you can see some party elders insulting them afterwards,” he lamented.
