Good news for first-year tertiary students enrolling in September 2025

President John Mahama has announced that the government will refund academic fees for all first-year tertiary students enrolling in September 2025.

The announcement was made during a major stop on his nationwide “Thank You Tour” at Jackson Park in Koforidua, Eastern Region, on Sunday, July 20.

Addressing a large crowd of supporters, President Mahama said the funds to support the initiative had already been secured to reduce the financial burden on students and their families.

“In September, the new batch of first-year students who will be enrolled, money is ready to be reimbursed for their academic fees,” he declared, drawing loud applause.

The initiative is part of the government’s ‘No Fees Stress’ policy — a flagship program aimed at eliminating financial barriers to tertiary education, especially for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The policy aligns with President Mahama’s broader agenda on social protection and human capital development, which featured prominently in his 2024 campaign.

In addition to the fee refund, the President also disclosed that six months of unpaid allowances owed to nursing and teacher training college students had been settled.

“We have also paid six months’ arrears of allowances for students at the nursing and teacher training colleges,” he said. “We promise that they will receive their allowances every month.”
