My appointment as ambassador was dropped over my Lebanese root – NPP stalwart reveals

Fadi Samih Dabbousi, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shared how his Lebanese heritage hindered his chances of securing a government appointment under the former Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration.

In a Facebook post dated Friday, July 25, 2025, Dabbousi recounted that his appointment as a Presidential Envoy to the Middle East by then-President Akufo-Addo was later withdrawn.

He explained that he had been assured the appointment letter would be issued soon, a promise that filled him with excitement and increased his admiration for Akufo-Addo, whom he described as not being a “bigot.”

“… Nonetheless, when the appointments were being made, His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo appointed me as Presidential Envoy to the Middle East on Investment. He specifically told me that my letter would be ready in a fortnight. So, I left Jubilee House late that night, content that the President was not a bigot,” he wrote.

Dabbousi noted that two weeks later, the president told him the appointment had been met with opposition from some individuals.

He said the opposition stemmed from concerns that his Lebanese descent and fair skin could lead to public backlash and negatively affect the party’s chances in the 2020 elections.

“Two weeks later, when I went to him, he said, ‘Fadi, there is slight problem with this appointment, so please give me another fortnight!’ And so it was, but when I showed up the next time, he sat me down and informed me that there has been a serious opposition to my appointment. The argument of the narcissist bigots was that I am white and of Lebanese origin. Hence, giving me an appointment would incur the wrath of Ghanaians risking the NPP’s chances in the 2020 general elections.

“I went pale (eiish, when white people become pale, they turn yellow). I quizzed him on his thoughts and he told me that he had an argument with them regarding my brutal campaign initiatives and the dangerous maneuvers that I took upon myself to ensure victory. Their advice was resolute,” he recounted.

Eventually, Dabbousi said he declined the appointment.
