Mahama revokes appointment of one appointee

President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointment of Satirieh Dorcas Ocran as Ghana’s ambassador to the Vatican City State.

In her place, the President has designated Benedict Batabe Assorow as the new ambassador to the Holy See. The directive was communicated in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, dated July 21, 2025.

“The President has also directed that Benedict Batabe Assorow should replace Mrs Satirieh Dorcas Ocran as the Ambassador-designate to the Vatican City State,” the letter stated.

The change was made in consultation with the Council of State.

Assorow, a seasoned journalist and former Managing Editor of The Catholic Standard, brings decades of media and communication experience to the diplomatic role. He previously chaired the Elections Committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and served on the boards of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and the Graphic Communications Group Ltd.

In 2006, he was awarded the Papal Knighthood of the Order of St. Gregory the Great by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, one of the highest honors conferred on lay Catholics.
