NPP caused the Bawku crisis, but we will solve it – Mahama Ayariga

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has refuted claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is avoiding the Bawku conflict, insisting the party is committed to resolving the issue.

Speaking in Parliament during the debate on the mid-year budget review on Thursday, July 31, 2025, Ayariga blamed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the crisis, arguing that peace prevailed in Bawku under the NDC from the 1980s until former President Kufuor assumed office in 2001.

He claimed the conflict began during the NPP administration and pointed to the installation of a rival chief under President Akufo-Addo as the root cause of the current unrest.

“We, the NDC government, are not running away from Bawku,” he said. “The problem started under the NPP. While Akufo-Addo was president, a rival chief was brought into Bawku, and that triggered the crisis.”

Ayariga expressed confidence in the ongoing mediation efforts led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and assured Ghanaians that former President John Dramani Mahama would work to find a lasting solution.

“We are not in a rush. We trust the Asantehene, and I am confident the issue will be resolved,” he added.…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
