Yvonne Nelson wins defamation case against Mona Gucci – Court slaps Mona 340K

An Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, has delivered its ruling in the defamation case between Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson and media personality Mona Gucci.

The judgment, handed down on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, found Mona Gucci liable for defamation and ordered her to retract her comments and issue an unqualified apology on the same platform where the statements were made.

The court further awarded a total of GH₵340,000 in damages against Mona Gucci. This amount includes GH₵250,000 in general damages, GH₵50,000 in exemplary damages, and GH₵40,000 to cover Yvonne Nelson’s legal costs.

The case stems from a 2020 broadcast on Neat FM, during which Mona Gucci described Yvonne Nelson as a “slay queen,” implying she was financially supported behind the scenes. Her exact words were:

“Yvonne doesn’t show off, but she is a slay, because you know the slay queen: it entails a lot. We have both showing off and some contacts and people, who we know, that, the things that you do and the lifestyle you exhibit, someone is paying for you behind the scenes.”

Yvonne Nelson filed the defamation suit in 2021, seeking GH₵500,000 in damages. She was represented by Mrs. Victoria Barth, while Mona Gucci was defended by lawyer Samuel Osei Sarpong.…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
