We won’t reduce DSTV subscription fee – Multichoice responds to Sam George
The operators of DStv, MultiChoice Ghana, have responded to a directive by the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, to reduce subscription fees, stating that such a proposal is not feasible.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 3, 2025, and signed by Managing Director Alex Okyere, MultiChoice explained that while they strive to keep subscription fees affordable, the Minister’s directive cannot be implemented under current conditions.
“MultiChoice values its subscribers and endeavours at all times to keep DStv subscription fees as low as possible, despite the extremely challenging competitive and macro-economic environment in which we operate, without compromising on customer choice and the quality of the services we offer,” the statement read.
The company noted that they have been in discussions with the Minister and the National Communications Authority, offering an alternative proposal to address concerns, but expressed disappointment in the Minister’s public stance.
“It is regrettable that the Honourable Minister has taken this stance, notwithstanding our ongoing endeavours to engage with the Honourable Minister candidly and in good faith on this important matter. In an effort to arrive at a resolution, we have made a proposal to the Honourable Minister and the National Communications Authority on an alternative further engagement avenue,” the statement added.
Although MultiChoice acknowledged the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, they maintained that it does not justify a price cut of the magnitude suggested. “It is not tenable to reduce the DStv subscription fees in the manner proposed by the Minister,” the company insisted, adding that they have never described the currency’s gain as a “fluke.”
With over three decades of operations in Ghana, MultiChoice emphasized the potential impact a deadlock could have on its staff and partners, reiterating its commitment to working within the legal framework.
“MultiChoice remains committed to constructive engagement with the Honourable Minister and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations in Ghana and trusts that the authorities will do likewise,” the statement concluded.
This development comes after Sam George issued an ultimatum for DStv to adjust its pricing by August 7, 2025, or risk having its broadcasting licence suspended by the National Communications Authority.
