Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the government to honour the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba with a state burial.

He made the appeal during a visit to the musician’s residence to express his condolences to the bereaved family.
During the visit, Dr. Bawumia, dressed in black mourning attire, also pledged the support of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) towards the funeral arrangements. He praised Daddy Lumba’s immense impact on Ghana’s music and culture.
Describing the singer’s passing as a devastating loss to both the music industry and the nation, Dr. Bawumia noted that Lumba’s legacy went beyond entertainment, as his music united Ghanaians across generations.
He emphasised the significance of honouring a life that played a key role in shaping Ghana’s cultural identity, adding that a state burial would be a fitting tribute to preserve and celebrate Daddy Lumba’s enduring legacy.
Dr. Bawumia also assured the family of the party’s support during the funeral period, reaffirming the NPP’s commitment to upholding Lumba’s memory with dignity and respect.
Though no funeral arrangements have been finalized, his visit added to a growing cascade of tributes by public figures and institutions.
