Akwatia NDC supporters chooses their favorite ahead of parliamentary primary

Supporters and delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Akwatia Constituency have thrown their weight behind parliamentary hopeful Ali Rasmus, popularly known as Asanka Poyoyoo, ahead of the party’s primaries slated for Monday, August 4, 2025.

The grassroots backing for Rasmus has intensified in recent weeks, with party loyalists praising his grassroots appeal, philanthropic initiatives, and unwavering dedication to community development. Many point to his personal financial sacrifices and consistent support for constituents as evidence of his leadership potential.

Rasmus will face two contenders in the race: Lawyer Bernard Bediako and Henry Kwadwo Boakye, the former NDC MP for Akwatia. Despite the competitive nature of the race, delegates believe Rasmus’ deep connection with the electorate gives him a distinct edge.

The upcoming NDC primaries form part of preparations for a critical by-election in Akwatia following the untimely passing of the sitting New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

Supporters of Rasmus say reclaiming the seat is not only possible but within reach if the NDC presents a candidate who resonates with the people. They are confident that Asanka Poyoyoo’s candidacy represents the party’s best hope of regaining political dominance in the constituency.
